Bio
Bill Kurata begins his second season coaching at Mendocino College in 2026, bringing decades of experience as a player, coach, and leader.
Kurata was a lifelong athlete, participating in four years of baseball, two of soccer, and one each of football and basketball at Salesian High School (1975–79). He later played Division I baseball at the University of San Francisco while earning a degree in Sport Administration (1979–83).
Kurata began coaching at Head-Royce High School (1985–89), then pursued a career in California's IT sector, eventually becoming CTO. He returned to coaching at Windsor High in 2022 and served as head coach in 2024. In 2025, he joined Mendocino College's baseball staff.
In addition to his coaching background, Kurata has been a prominent figure in the Redwood Empire Baseball League (REBL) for more than a decade. He has played continuously since 2013 and has competed annually in the MSBL World Series across multiple age divisions. In recognition of his sustained excellence, leadership, and contributions to the game, Kurata was inducted into the 2025 MSBL World Series Hall of Fame. He has also been recognized within the Bay Valley Conference for his work ethic, commitment to field preparation and maintenance, and support of student-athletes.
Kurata’s playing career spans youth baseball, semi-professional leagues, and national tournament competition, with championship experience as both a player and manager. His deep appreciation for the game, commitment to relationships, and understanding of team culture continue to shape his coaching philosophy.
Coach Bill resides in Windsor, California, with his wife Jan and is the proud father of Karly and William.
